Dear Edge parents,

We want to thank you in advance for allowing us the privilege of working along side your family in the spiritual training of your child. The Edge program has been specifically designed to meet the spiritual, emotional, and developmental needs of your ’tween’ in grade 5 and 6.

We understand kids today kids face a lot of questions and pressures about their growing faith. Our leaders want to model Jesus for them, by intentionally building relationships that allows them to freely discuss these issues.

We want our program to be culturally relevant in what we teach. We will challenge them with the material we present each week, so they can build a deeper relationship with their Saviour. We want them to ask the tough questions to help make their faith their own. We want to do all this and have fun as well!

We do things a little different in The Edge. This program runs at one service at 9:20 only. The other is we will not be running The Edge program on any long weekends. Our goal is for this age group of children to become familiar with the Adult Worship services. We encourage you to take this opportunity to sit in a service with your child. And enjoy the worship service as a family.

Kids in Grade 5 and 6 must be accompanied by a parent to the Foundation Room (downstairs) for sign-in. There kids and parents will be greeted by our friendly volunteers. Upon initial registration, kids are issued a name tag which is color-coded according to the Small Group into which they are placed. In most cases, Small Groups are made up of kids belonging to the same grade in school, and separated into boys and girls groups. Families will also be issued a Family Identification Card which MUST be shown to the volunteers when signing in Grades 5 and 6 kids at the start of the service.

Energetic, worship music plays as the kids engage in activities in “The Edge” room (a small room off the main part of the Foundation Room). This an informal time for kids to interact with other kids and with their Small Group Leaders.  When the activity time is over, the kids participate in a time of worship and a variety of Large and Small Group activities which will allow for interaction between kids and relationship building between kids and leaders. Over the course of two years, the curriculum for this age group will address issues of faith, peer pressure, school and families. Communion, baptism, character, purity, media influence, other religions, how to be a follower of Jesus, evidence for the Bible, the resurrection and more will be studied in creative, interactive and life-relevant ways.

At the end of the program, Grades 5 and 6 kids are led upstairs to the church foyer to reconnect with their parents. Parents are not required to show their I.D. cards for this age group, unless special arrangements have been made due to contact restrictions.

Looking forward to meeting all of you. If you have any questions about anything related to The Edge program feel free to contact me: Alisa Jones Director of The Edge. 403-948-0291 or via e mail edge@airdriealliance.com
